An award, a meme…you’d think I’d been gone for a couple days

So Jen was kind enough to share the love with me and say some pretty nice things as well.  And apparently it’s not just because of the chocolate :)

And now I get to share the blog love:

Alison at Party of Three  is not only hilarious, as are her two adorable daughters but she’s a fellow single mom.  She’s also a Canadian girl, who understands my pain this never ending winter.  She’s studying French (why???) and she loves beer :)   I check everyday for a new post and would probably have been blocked if I hadn’t conceded her Hockey team is better than mine.

Mongois a new find, which I love to read.  4 kids!! and the woman still manages to make costumes from scratch at the last minute.  WB would’ve loved to have her at his disposal back in his Hallowe’en days.  She is also an amazing photographer in her “spare” time.

Major Bedhead is a prolific and heartfelt writer.  She also has a wicked sense of humour.  And…..she married a Canadian boy.  She also manages to parent “eleven seventy” children and maintain her sanity.

Minnesota Madness blows my mind on a regular basis.  She’s witty, intelligent, gorgeous and the mother of 5 rugrats.  She’ll either make you snort wine out your nose, make you think of something in a different light or pull at your heart strings.  Oh…and she’s married to a real nice Ug.

Sizzle Says is a must read, although I admit I am about 2 days behind.  She’s funny, sassy, honest and delightful.  Sizzle shares her life with her blog friends and we’re all better for it.

Winners, here are the rules:

  1. Write a post with links to five blogs that make your day.
  2. Acknowledge the post of the award giver.
  3. Display the “You Make My Day Award” logo.
  4. Tell the award winners that they have won by commenting on their blogs or emailing them the news.

On to more bloggy fun:

Major Bedhead tagged me for the Six Words meme. This is based on the Not Quite What I Had Planned memoir, put out by Smith Magazine.

Here are the rules:

1) Write your own six word memoir;
2) Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like;
3) Link to the person that tagged you in your post, and to the original post if possible so we can track it as it travels across the blogosphere;
4) Tag at least five more blogs with links; and
5) Don’t forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play!

Slowly realizing we will be okay.

I tag Jen, Alison, Mongo and Guider.

A meme from Jen

Jen tagged me for a meme oh, I don’t know – 3 weeks ago?  And in my usual procrastinating fashion, I am just getting to it now :)

4 jobs I’ve had

Deli clerk when I was 14 (needed stitches 3 times); bartender, babysitter and Marketing Assistant.

4 movies I could watch over and over

Silence of the Lambs, Serendipity, Saw and Sideways.  Total fluke they all start with S.

4 TV shows I watch

House, Grey’s Anatomy, Jon Stewart on the Daily Show and Anderson Cooper 360.

4 places I’ve lived

I was born down the road in Hamilton, Ontario.  I spent 3 years in Victoria, BC in my late teens.  I then moved to Montreal and then settled in Burlington about 12 years ago.

4 favourite foods

Crab cakes.  Hummus.  Scalloped potatoes.  Starbucks Chai Tea.

4 favourite colours

Black x 4.  Or, if you’re a stickler – rust, black, mossy green and chocolate brown.

4 places I’d love to be right now

My couch in my jammies.  Dublin for my Mom’s marathon.  Boston to hold my girlfriend’s hand.  A beach with a warm breeze, gentle ocean waves lapping at my toes and cabana boys with mojitos.

4 names I love but could/would not use for my children

Samantha, Lily, Ava and Emma.  I have a boy, which is why I couldn’t use any of them, but they were all on the list when I was expecting.

Okay, I tag Party of 3 and Minnesota Madness.

8 random things and yes, I am looking for distractions

While I wasn’t technically tagged by Minnesota Madness - instead she was her usual thoughtful and loving self asking people to send me hugs – but I need something to distract me.  You’ll notice a new design and if you’re not fond of it – let me know.  I’m just playing around.

So, without further ado, here are 8 random things about me you may not know:

#1    I have 4 tattoos on my lower back.  They are my son’s full name, faith, hope and love in chinese (WB is 1/2 chinese) symbols.  They are one beneath the other, ending just at the base of my spine.  The reason this is random is that unless you have seen me naked in the last 5 years (and really, I don’t want to, so why would you) or have been around when the back of my shirt pulled up enough to show some of them – you wouldn’t know.  I had them done for me – all at different times, but knowing the ultimate goal – and have only shared them with some.

#2  I am deathly afraid of wasps/bees/hornets…you get the picture.  I was at day camp when I was 12 when we went for a hike.  The girl in front of me stepped on a hornets nest in a fallen tree trunk.  I was subsequently stung 47 times.  Thankfully, I am not allergic, but its enough to make you scared well past your 30’s.  The girl in front – 3 stings.  I think it works on the same principal as men – I need to change my perfume.

#3  My left foot is 1/2 size bigger than  my right foot since having WB.  Really not interesting but difficult to buy shoes people.  Have to do a lot of maneouvering of the shoes when the sales people aren’t looking.

#4  I am 90% grey.  Yep and have been since I was 25.  Miss Clairol (actually Loreal…) and I have been really good friends every 5 -6 weeks for a very long time.  I used to have it done professionally, but that’s like $80 a pop for the same length of time.  These days, I can do the touch up kits and make it last 8 weeks…woot!!!!

#5  I get along better with men than women.  You wouldn’t know that from lack of successful relationships, but its true.  Not too sure if its because I’m not a girly girl or because I can’t put up with all the back stabbing that sometime ensues between women – but I have more male friends than female.

#6  I took my Mom’s car for a joy ride when I was 15 and totalled it.  Have a permanant scar on my left knee from where the engine came thru to the driver’s side.  Yeah, that went over well.  They still allowed me to get my license a year later though…go figure.

#7  I have had 2 relatives die on my birthday in different years and they were my dad’s dad when I was 13 and my mom’s dad when I was 18.

#8  I will do any dare put to me and am a huge practical joker.  I once painted an old boss’ lawn with the #40 because he was freaking out about turning 40.  Only we did it in oil paint and killed the grass.  I did something even worse to my boss at the oil company, but after 8 years, he still doesn’t know it was me, so…..I will not divulge.

I figure I am really late to the game for this meme, so I’m not going to tag anyone…but if you play, let me know.
