A rant

I had decided when I came back I wouldn’t talk about WB’s friend Andrew or the circumstances of his death out of respect for his family.

Unfortunately, there are way too many insensitive assholes out there and I am forced to address their ignorance.

I understand that with Andrew being shot, there is a natural progression from that to an assumption of drugs, etc.  And unless you knew Andrew or his family, it would be just that – an assumption.  And we all know what “assume” does, now don’t we?

I was there when a journalist stuck a tape recorder in a grieving mother’s face and asked how long her son had been dealing drugs.  I was there when my son punched someone in the face for saying in front of Andrew’s little sister: “He was obviously in a gang and dealing – what did you expect would happen?”

I’m here to set the record straight.

Andrew was in his second year of College and a straight A student.  He was active in his church, volunteered on a regular basis and was the lead singer for a local band.

Andrew tried to diffuse a bad situation at a house party the week before his death by asking 5 people to leave.  4 of those 5?  They hunted him down in a park a week later and shot him once, in the chest.  The 16 year old that was arrested admits he pulled the trigger because he will only go to jail for 2 years as a juvenile.  An autopsy proved Andrew had no drugs in his system.

Everyone needs to stop focusing on the sensational and start focusing on the fact a young man lost his life.

Hi

First, thank you to everyone who emailed to make sure WB and I are okay.

We’re alright.  WB has been slowly getting back into the swing of school etc, but it’s hard.  And its hard on me watching him struggle with this loss.

So, I think I’m going to take the rest of the week off and focus on helping him heal as much as possible.

Thanks again for all the kind words and support.

No words

A friend of WB’s was shot and killed last night.

He was a good, kind, funny young man starting his first year of University.

I’m at a loss.

Thank you

Thank you for letting me cry on your shoulder last night after talking to my girlfriend in Boston.

Thank you for buying me a new camera after I dropped mine in the lake Friday night.

Thank you for cleaning up the entire mess from Thanksgiving dinner on Monday.

Thank you for being such a good role model and friend to WB.

Thank you for not complaining when I warm my cold feet on your legs or steal all the covers.

Thank you for reminding me I am worthy.

Thank you for being brave enough to take the plunge from friendship to romance with me.

Thank you for holding my hand at the Dr’s office this morning and immediately calling work to change your schedule so you can be there for my tests later this month.

Thank you.

A meme from Jen

Jen tagged me for a meme oh, I don’t know – 3 weeks ago?  And in my usual procrastinating fashion, I am just getting to it now :)

4 jobs I’ve had

Deli clerk when I was 14 (needed stitches 3 times); bartender, babysitter and Marketing Assistant.

4 movies I could watch over and over

Silence of the Lambs, Serendipity, Saw and Sideways.  Total fluke they all start with S.

4 TV shows I watch

House, Grey’s Anatomy, Jon Stewart on the Daily Show and Anderson Cooper 360.

4 places I’ve lived

I was born down the road in Hamilton, Ontario.  I spent 3 years in Victoria, BC in my late teens.  I then moved to Montreal and then settled in Burlington about 12 years ago.

4 favourite foods

Crab cakes.  Hummus.  Scalloped potatoes.  Starbucks Chai Tea.

4 favourite colours

Black x 4.  Or, if you’re a stickler – rust, black, mossy green and chocolate brown.

4 places I’d love to be right now

My couch in my jammies.  Dublin for my Mom’s marathon.  Boston to hold my girlfriend’s hand.  A beach with a warm breeze, gentle ocean waves lapping at my toes and cabana boys with mojitos.

4 names I love but could/would not use for my children

Samantha, Lily, Ava and Emma.  I have a boy, which is why I couldn’t use any of them, but they were all on the list when I was expecting.

Okay, I tag Party of 3 and Minnesota Madness.

Way to make it difficult guys

283843_3.jpg

It’s Election day here in Ontario and the pickings are slim.  We have to choose from the four gentleman above and for this girl its not an easy choice.

I can choose the guy in the upper left hand corner – our current Premier, head of the Liberal party and a proven liar.

I could choose the guy in the upper right hand corner – head of the Conservatives, flip flops when confronted and his party did a lot of damage to this province when they were in power last.

Or hey, the guy in the lower left hand corner – head of the New Democrats; but the last time his party was in power, we were thrown into a recession and rife with labour disputes.

Or, I could vote for #4 – the Green Party.  No experience but hey, at least they’re honest and they haven’t been given an opportunity to screw up yet.

Sarcasm free of charge.

Short but sweet

  • This week end was insanely busy but a lot of fun.  Tons of turkey, friends, family (the good kind) and laughter.  And copious amounts of alcohol.
  • Nutso at work today as we were closed but the US was open.
  • Spent the better part of 6 hours Sunday morning shopping in Buffalo.  Major Christmas shopping done, which if you know me, is shocking.  I am worse than most men when it comes to last minute Christmas shopping.
  • Cooked Thanksgiving dinner for 15 people on monday, while the temperature outside hit 108F.  In October.  In Canada.  Maybe Al Gore’s onto something?
  • Dropped my camera in the lake on Friday night….long story.
  • Three calls from my ex, drunk Jamie.  What is it with the Holidays and ex’s?
  • 2 hours in the OHIP office for WB on Friday afternoon.  Seriously, how much do we pay these people again?  And is there a reason they have such a god complex?

More tomorrow I promise, but I leave you with a pic of Rhino with my godson.  Yes, we’re corrupting him too :)

The one where my boyfriend offers to find me some cement shoes

So the back story to yesterday’s post is this:

The will is not settled yet because my step bitch is still fighting the validity of the new will.  The one my father made out, in a lawyer’s office.  The one that gives my son $20K of the $85K she was suppose to get.

So, with the will not settled, the town house is technically not ours.  And when the step bitch got wind of our impending trip, she filed a motion that basically would have us charged with trespassing should we set foot on the property.

I was and am beyond angry.  Rhino offered to call a friend or two and find out the cost for a couple of cement shoes for her (thx hon!!).  My lawyer asked that I stop saying “I’m going to kill the bitch” while talking to him.

And to top everything off, WB lost his Health Card, so I get to spend the afternoon in a Government office filling out forms and proving he’s legit.

After that?  A trip to the liquor store and a BBQ at my place.  It’s Thanksgiving week end for us and the temperatures are suppose to be in the high 80’s.  So, I figured I would relax, invite some friends over and try to forget all about her.

I’m cooking dinner for everyone on Sunday, so I promise lots of pics.

Thank you to everyone for your support and offers of bail $$.  You guys rock.

Yes I rode my broom to work today, why do you ask?

witch_03.jpg

That’s me today.

We’re not going to Hilton Head tomorrow morning anymore.

Why?

Because of my bitch of a step monster.

Rounding up bail money right now, just in case I need it.

Boxers and black dress socks ahead

A friend of ours is in town this week for Thanksgiving.  The three of us (Rhino, Jared and I), use to work together at a pub in Oakville.

Last night we went out for dinner and after a few wobbly pops the boys got creative with the restaurant mascot.

Yes, Rhino put the RCMP Beaver’s paw down the front of his pants.  A definite case of you can dress them up but you can’t take them out.

The drinking and insanity continued once we got home.  As I was the only one who had to get up for work in the morning, I left them to their antics around 11pm.  This morning Jared made a point of showing me some of the pics they took of each other last night.

I apologize in advance for the black dress socks and well….all of it:

No wonder WB is all gung ho to have Rhino babysit again.  I’m thinking they are about the same age….mentally.
